VAECE is pleased to present Marcia Tate presenting on "Techniques for Managing Brain-Compatible Classrooms" Cick here for the Flyer.
Classroom management is the number one issue for both new teachers and experienced educators. Best-selling author Marcia L. Tate shows that with appropriate planning, a classroom manager can reduce learning problems and increase academic achievement. She demonstrates how to cultivate a physical classroom environment conducive to learning, develop a proactive classroom management plan, deliver brain-compatible lessons, and deal with chronic behavior problems.
This One Day Seminar will be held on Friday, March 18, from 9 AM to 1 PM in the Greater Richmond Convention Center. All public school teachers are invited to attend. The cost to attend this special session is $100 and registration will begin in October 2010. All attendees will receive a complimentary copy of Ms. Tate's book: "Shouting Won't Grow Dendrites" |

Second Presbyterian Child Care Center - a multi-age urban child care center with an award winning environmentally friendly playground developed with multiple community and private partners.
Friday 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM
Tour 2:
Partnership for Families Northside - a Lead Gold Center designed to bring children of economically and culturally diverse family backgrounds together. This is a setting established to provide high quality care for children ages six weeks to 5 years of age in a setting designed to promote children's readiness for success in the primary school settings. This center was strategically planned to be located in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Richmond by the Partnership for Families Northside with the generous support of the Robin's Foundation. The vision created for this center was to bring the communities of Greater Richmond together for the greater good under one umbrella. To create a center of excellence in outreach and in service. One of our Italian counterparts said it best when he said ...Education does not occur in isolation...it is best served by WE....Us...Together.

SATURDAY OPEN HOUSE FREE TOUR
For our Saturday attendees, the VCU Health System Child Care at NDeck would like to extend an invitation to attend their Open House on Saturday March 19, 2011 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tours and impromptu conversations about our Reggio inspired programming will be followed by refreshments.
VCU is fortunate to have both an Academic Campus Child Care Center and a Medical Campus Child Care Center. This year the Medical Center Campus serving children 6 weeks (one of the largest Infant - Young Toddlers Centers on the East Coast) to 5 years of age would like to welcome you to the VAECE Conference. We also have an Intergenerational Program housed within our facility offering children and older adults the opportunity to interact consistently in a meaningful way!

Becky A. Bailey, Ph.D. will be speaking at the Opening Session on Thursday morning at 10 AM. Dr. Bailey is the founder of Loving Guidance, Inc., a company dedicated to creating positive environments for children, families, schools and businesses. She is also the developer of the Conscious Discipline® program.

Linda Hassan Anderson. will be speaking at the Motivational Luncheon on Thursday at noon. Linda is the Senior Director of the NAEYC Academy for Early Childhood Program Accreditation. NAEYC is a leading voice on program and learning standards, teacher quality and professional development, curriculum and assessment, and other critical issues in the field. This special event has an additional cost and registration. |

Dr. Pam Schiller, Ph.D. will be speaking on Friday. Dr. Schiller is a curriculum specialist and freelance author and speaker, and has worked as a childcare administrator and has also taught in the public schools. Dr. Schiller shares her extensive knowledge in workshops, radio and television interviews, and as a popular keynote speaker and author. She is the author of six curriculums, eighteen children’s books, more than thirty teacher and parent resource books and a number of other creative projects such as activity books, DVDs and CDs. Her newest project is a comprehensive pre-k curriculum written in consort with Dr. Becky Bailey, for Frog Street Press.

Brett Leake will be speaking at the Banquet on Friday evening. Comedian Brett Leake stands apart - or at least sits apart - from his peers. In his youth, the Virginia native was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. But he pushed the disability aside and has become a successful comic, gaining national recognition on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Entertainment Tonight, and the American Comedy Awards.

Chris Tickle will be speaking at the Closing General Session on Saturday afternoon. Chris is a 4th grade teacher at the Steward School in Richmond, VA, and holds his Master of Arts in Teaching. A firm believer in the old adage that “Good teaching is ¼ preparation and ¾ theatre”, Chris includes music and the arts in almost everything he does.
