The Prince William County Association for the Education of Young Children (#230)

Membership area:

Prince William County, Manassas, Manassas Park, Stafford County, Spotsylvania County, Fredericksburg, Caroline County, King George County, Culpepper County, Fauquier County

Mission:

The mission of the Prince William Association for the Education of Young Children is to promote the professional growth and development of those who are committed to the care and education of young children, to advocate for the best educational practices, and to be a voice for the rights, needs, and well-being of young children.

To fulfill its mission, PWAEYC will:

  • continue to seek out new members with an emphasis on the student population of our area.  We will contact college professors and present to early education classes.  We will find ways to attract and involve student members.
  • work to expand our use of technology to include creating a website for PWAEYC.
  • Improve organizational effectiveness.  A board retreat in May will focus on improving organizational effectiveness and making PWAEYC a HPIO (High Performing Inclusive Organization) by preparing a new board handbook, developing more definitive job descriptions, and ensuring that all board members are aware of NAEYC roles and functions.

Opportunities for involvement:

  • Participate in a variety of professional activities such as the 2 Day PWAEYC High Scope Workshop held in the summer and the Annual Meeting in the fall.
  • Receive the PWAEYC newsletter carrying news of regional training and educational opportunities
  • Participate on a committee, serve as a board member, join in public policy advocacy
  • Receive reduced “member rate” at conferences and workshops..

Upcoming Events:

Annual fall membership meeting, a two-day High/Scope workshop, "literacy concerts" in celebration of the week of the young child, and a partnership with another organization in our county to carry out a Child Watch in which we introducing various business and government personnel to the reality of childcare options in the county; the effect of childcare quality on parents, children, and businesses; and taking them to see examples of high quality programs.
